The Top 3 False Beliefs About Life Coaching Dispelled (3 Min Read)
It’s not true what they say, “Two heads are better than one,” and I’ll prove it. Think of the last time you were stuck spending time with someone who did nothing but complain. Were you able to focus on growing and improving your life or those around you? What about your ability to think critically to improve the to-do list items you had rolling around? Likely not.
The truth is more specific, “Two healthy, focused, and experienced heads are better than one.” That’s why a Coach is such a powerful tool for anyone; they are the focused and experienced head that spots current and potential incoming troubles before they arise, allowing us to be far better prepared to take on any challenge than if we continued to go it alone. That’s how I help my clients thrive at work and home without sacrificing one for the other.
There's a lot of misinformation out there about life coaching. Maybe you've heard some myths and misconceptions about life coaching and written it off as not being for you. But the truth is, life coaching can be a precious tool for anyone looking to make positive changes in the workplace and at home. In this blog post, we'll dispel some of the most common myths about life coaching so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not it's right for you.
Myth #1: Life coaches are only for people who are "lost" or "stuck."
Truth: Many people think that life coaches are only for people who feel like they're floundering or don't know what they want out of life. But the truth is, life coaching can be helpful for anyone who wants to make positive changes in their life, no matter how successful or together they may already be. We can always improve or become more efficient. If you're stuck in any area of your life or simply looking to take things to the next level, a life coach can help you get there.
This is exactly why any top performer worldwide has constant mentorship/coaching.
Myth #2: Life coaching is expensive.
Truth: Just like anything else, you get what you pay for with life coaching. And while it's true that some coaches charge high rates, there are also many affordable options available. Researching and finding a coach whose rates fit your budget is essential. Most importantly, hire a coach who will get you results that will show in your work and personal life. Every coach I have hired for myself has brought me a much higher return on investment than what I was receiving before working with them. I’m literally batting 1.000 in successes achieved from each of my decisions to hire a coach.
Myth #3: Life coaching is only for people who want to achieve big goals.
Truth: While life coaching can undoubtedly help you achieve enormous goals, it's also helpful for more mundane day-to-day tasks. Maybe you struggle to stick to a workout routine or eat healthy meals. Or maybe you're having trouble balancing work and home responsibilities. Whatever it is, a life coach can help you develop a plan to overcome these challenges and live a happier, more balanced life.
If you're considering working with a life coach but have been deterred by some myths and misconceptions, I hope this blog post has helped set the record straight. Life coaching can be a precious tool for anyone who wants to make positive changes. For my clients, they especially see the elevated work and personal life success in a far more balanced state.
So if you're feeling stuck or just looking to take things to the next level, don't hesitate to set a meeting with a coach who specializes in the area(s) you aim to improve!
P.S. Any coach who is truly good will offer a free first call. They should also be happy to point you in the right direction to find the right coach for what you’re looking for, including if that coach is someone other than themselves. For example, I do not coach clients looking to find love, but there are plenty of dating coaches who do, and I would be happy to direct you to them. A good coach knows exactly who they serve and who they do not serve.
